This new thing...

All photos by Lina Scheynius

I just discovered this photographer Lina Scheynius, and I find her to be very inspiring. I just bought a Canon 40D today. There was a really nice seller on Craigslist who works for a stop-motion animation studio and so has a bunch of old canon 40ds to sell and they were such a huge bargain that I couldn't resist getting one. Thank you everyone for your nice comments and help! It's so great to be able to put a question out into the ether and get multiple kind responses back. I can't wait to show you some of my photos as I learn about my new camera!

Blogging is such a godsend. If nothing, I just feel like I have a place to vent. The Super Saturated post was all stream of consciousness as I was trying to type as quickly as I could whatever thought/feeling came out of me. I really enjoyed the process, it felt so free, no struggling to think of what to write, what I should write, no expectations and it was so therapeutic that I felt light afterwards. Blogging is still a weird thing I'm trying to wrap my head around, to write a little bit of myself and present it to the unknown universe and sometimes, hopefully, get responses back from people around the world. It's cool. It's neat. I like it. So, thank you to everyone who has made themselves known and continue to do so. I really love you all!

Neon surfer bum

(reversible sweatshirt-thrifted, shorts-H&M, bag-mom's, earring-keychain, sunglasses-santee alley, hat-H&M, shoes-converse)

That earring is really a keychain that our friend/houseguest Xavier gave me while we were RVing it at Coachella that I fashioned into an earring as I was running out the door because I thought I needed some wacky accessory. This outfit is really the most effortless outfit ever put together because I actually slept in the sweater and shorts the night before. Yup, this is me wearing my pajamas out in public. I mean, I love fashion and all but some days you just can't be bothered to think about assembling a whole new outfit together, no matter how much you love fashion and getting ready, right? I haven't worn my chucks in a million years but they're making a debut today because, like I said, this was LAZY DAY!

Anyways, another issue: Tim and I are shopping for a DSLR, right now we have the very cute and stylish Leica D-Lux 4, which is great for it's versatility and charming good looks but I've noticed my pictures are definitely sub-par compared to all the lovely professional looking photos I've come across on fashion blogs. I've narrowed down my decision to buying some kind of Canon. Which Canon DSLR shall I get? What kind of camera do you have and what do you like/hate about it? Let me know your thoughts! <3

[Cue ominous metal voice and guitar solo] ...UN...EARTHENNNN!!!

Is it just me or does anyone else feel compelled to say Unearthen in a deep metal dude growl? "UN [cue drums]...EARTHENNNN!!!"
A million thanks to Brit for asking me to model for UNEARTHEN's latest resort collection!!! I'm convinced they're the coolest jewelry company in the world. Picture crystal ball rings that rest perfectly on your knuckles, a conical cut of dreamy green aventurine cast in gold that also rests perfectly over your fingers. They've added cuffs, new watches and necklaces. I can't wait for this collection to come out!!
I got to hang out with 2 rad chicks, Gia and Zen, in sunny beautiful downtown LA, drink sparkling water, and play with crystals for my afternoon, and, then at the end of it all, they gave me a ring for my hard work. ;) Check it out.

Super saturated

Lazy or tired or stressed or something. I'm starting to get restless, I need a change, need a chance. It's summer and the Santa Anas are blowing their tumbleweeds into my heart. I know I have a fashion blog but I really want to do so many different things that I can't funnel it all down. I'm just a jumbled mess of emotions, of unfocused energy, of strange sexual tension that is erupting into my dreams. Do you like how saturated my sweater vest is? I'm into it. I like looking at something so bright, it hurts. I like closing my eyes into the direction of the sun and seeing nothing but red through my eyelids, until I see strange neon shapes dance around me and it makes me squint harder and the shapes dance faster, until I finally squint so hard that I'm opening my mouth, I'm screaming and with my eyes still closed, I'm screaming at the sun, until there is nothing, just red, black, white, blank, and I and the sun become one.

Little bit of leather, a lot of lace

(lace top-thrifted, shorts-thrifted, shoes-ralph lauren, jewlery-thrifted/flea market/vintage, bustier-thrifted, belt-something left over from when I was a kid)

This outfit was totally centered around the bell sleeved lace cardigan. I'm so into bell sleeves. I saw these pictures from Winter Kate Fall 2011 on refinery29 and I was particularly enamored with these 2 looks. Black bell sleeved top? The search is ON!

The Clock didn't let down, it was very engaging and even funny. There were many scenes that caused eruptions of laughter from the audience because of the juxtaposition of scenes, notably one scene where a man picked up the phone and then cut to a scene of a woman saying "Goodbye" and hanging up. We participated in the fun game of guessing which movie each scene came from. Before we went in, I was wondering if Christian Marclay would feature any Wong Kar Wai films. His films are my favorite stylistically and he uses lots of shots of clocks to highlight the concept of time. I was super excited when I heard Yumeji's theme from "In the Mood for Love" and saw that there was a scene from that film in there. We went from 11:00pm to 12:00am, so it was fun to see the montage of clocks striking midnight. I was so tired by then that I was literally falling asleep in the theater which is not to discredit the film in any way, it just proves that I'm actually a granny under the guise of a 25 year old girl. If you want to read a beautifully written article about The Clock, I highly reccommend you read Zadie Smith's article!

Going to see The Clock by Christian Marclay

Super ashy knees. White and gold. Everything except for the quartz necklace is thrifted. Going to Animal for dinner. Then, the LACMA to see Christian Marclay's The Clock, a 24 hr film featuring movie/tv mashups of shots of different clocks with the time appearing on screen as it really is in real life. We're hoping to go around 10 and stay for an hour, maybe more if it is really intriguing. I'll let you know how it goes but I'm expecting greatness! Read more about it here

In other fashion news....PENIS HEELS

Here are penis heels designed by Void of Course, which Lady Gaga wore to guest judge American Idol. I think her music is really terrible but I'm into her looks sometimes. I think more famous people should be riskier with their fashion choices. These fuck-me-pumps cost $4500 and I'm sure dominatrixes all over are making really good use of them...

Native Sun

(tank-vintage, denim skirt-vintage, shoes-gojane, jade cat and quartz pendant- mom's!, other jewelry-thrifted, purse-flea market)

This is what I wore when The Fox is Black came over for an interview about LA and some beers.

black//white//stripes//AGAIN

I'm bummed about blogger crashing and deleting this post about my friend Colleen's rooftop soiree that had all these rad comments that are lost forever. I'm also bummed that it didn't save the draft in which I wrote about how this first picture is like the typical fashion blogger too-cool-for-smiles look and the pictures below depict what a true dork I am. Anyways, here's my re-attempt. Everything is thrifted except for the shoes and faux leather shorts from gojane.com! The sparkle near my crotch is a barely visible sequin fanny pack. :)I'm happiest when nestled against a buddy's bosom.

Finally, a picture of us looking normal. Because we (mostly) are.

Shroud and Armor

(Sleeveless top-thrifted, pleather shorts-gojane, shoes-forever21, jewlery-thrifted and mom's, poncho-thrifted)

I wore this outfit yesterday to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena where I met up with Madeline, Colleen, and Britney. Madeline and I were in a literal sea of shoes while browsing this seller's array. I found the pictured armor bag, a mother-of-pearl cuff, and a carpet bag, and Tim picked up a gorgeous set of mid-century style speakers.

I met Judy of Knorml who sells amazing 90's vintage, my favorite era. Most vintage booths aren't curated to pertain to a certain era or aesthetic and so it often makes shopping for vintage difficult and overwhelming. I love small booths like Knorml that really only have a couple racks of well selected pieces that all relate to each other. If you're looking for 90's inspired wear, look no further.
