Living in the Dim Light

(denim shirt-thrifted, dress- solemio, belt-thrifted, shoes- qupid, cuff-thrifted)

This Blonde Redhead song has been stuck in my head all day. I've had this dress forever though I've only worn it once. I threw a denim shirt over it to lessen its dangerously "clubwear" vibe.

Growlers

(Scarf-Jet Rag, Shorts-Vintage, Tank-Thrifted, Hat- H&M, Shoes-Qupid, Belt-Vintage)

The title of my post is inspired by the band I've been listening to lately of the same name and the sheer tiger print scarf that I made from a ragged maxi skirt found in a pile of clothes on the ground from the notorious Sunday Jet Rag $1 sale in West Hollywood. I feel that a good itinerary for anyone who is travelling to Los Angeles and wants to do a rad shopping tour is to wake up nice and early on Sunday, go to the Jet Rag $1 sale, then go to Space 15 Twenty's Flea Market, then go to the Melrose Trading Post/ Fairfax Flea Market. If you go early enough to Jet Rag, you'll have the opportunity to grab the choicest picks before they get scooped up by a certain shop that then goes on to sell said items at their booth at Melrose Trading Post (for like 30 times the original cost). It's always interesting to me to see where and how vintage sellers get their clothes. I've been thrifting for so long now, I feel like I could open up an Ebay store or rent a booth at a flea market someday. That might be a fun way to get rid of clutter and make some cash!

In other news, I just got back from a nice little trip to see my parents in Las Vegas. I said in one of my very first posts that I would do a post on my mom's awesome fashion from back in the day and that will be coming up! We went to see two Cirque Du Soleil shows, O and Love. O is a beautiful show that is very traditional Cirque with lots of death defying stunts and amazing acrobatic ability. Love is inspired by the Beatles music, it is incredibly upbeat yet touching and is more dance based. I've seen Love twice now and it has made me cry every time! It is also an absolute must-see for anyone interested in costume design.

The last thing I want to say is, how much do you like my ostrich leather belt? I'm not condoning ostrich farming by any means but ostrich leather is so cool. Needless to say, I'm in love with these Jeffrey Campbell slingbacks. My aversion to spending over $50 on any one piece of clothing and my guilt over buying new animal products makes me feel bad for wanting these as bad as I do...

Declare Independence!

(shorts- thrifted, top- H&M, shoes-gojane, jewlery-thrifted, bag-flea market in Japan)

So, I've been having an existential crisis lately which accounts for my huge blogging hiatus. Sometimes I just get overwhelmed and need a break from the world wide web. Also, photoshop was still quitting 2 minutes into the program and yeah, that topic bores me too but I think maybe it's finally done being fickle because it at least stayed open long enough for me to resize and subsequently post these pictures!

My 4th of July was spent on the roof of an artist loft in downtown LA. I finally got to see Madeline since what feels like forever. There was BBQing, music, and the most spectacular views of the city and the fireworks that were happening at the Dodger Stadium. The weather was perfect and I felt free and happy which was nice considering that I was going through a panicked couple of weeks where I was questioning everything.

My outfit had nothing to do with red, white, or blue. Consider it my small form of rebellion. Everyone was oohing and aahing over Mo, Madeline's dachshund every chance they got and although you can't really blame them, I started referring to my vintage fur bag as MY dog. It received many loving pats and praise by strangers in its own right, but once, a girl sat on it. I didn't really appreciate my dog being sat on but I guess that's what happens when you look like a nice shag rug. After the rooftop party, I hung out with my awesome friend Rachel and her pals at the Echo Park Lake. It was such a nice time.

Hey Internet?
Even though you are stressful and creepy sometimes, thanks for always just being there.

Some more F/W 11 Favs- Gareth Pugh, Rodarte, Veronica Leroy

I was writing an epic long dissertation on my blogging crises on this post and then realized it was totally irrelevant to the pictures below and that the spewage of my neuroses is better put on an altogether separate post, so, um, expect that next!? In the meantime, here are some beautiful pictures!

GARETH PUGH

I can't tell you how bad I want these leggings.

Also, these leggings. (dies)

Whoa. No words.

This Gareth Pugh collection blew me away. Goth. Glam. Gold. Armor. Those are the words that pop into my head. I loved the vibrant rudimentary blue. It was flowy and feminine enough to contrast with the strong gold architectural jackets and leather. How stunning is this all gold outfit? I would throw a party and dress the best go-go dancer in that ensemble, set her in the middle of the dance floor on a stage, and shine a spotlight on her so she can be the live disco ball. That's what I would do. ^.~

RODARTE

This look, and the similar look in black, is actually my favorite of this collection. It's simple but compelling, seeing that the skirt is sheer makes me want to find out what is worn underneath. I also like it because I look at runway photos because it inspires me to think of how I can recreate a similar look without the luxury price tag.

I also love everything about this look, and the model is perfect for it!

The way the dress moves is amazing. I advise everyone to look at the video link on style.com where it shows the look in motion! I imagine wearing this dress solely to walk around swiftly in and feel the fabric billow and swish around.

Veronique Leroy

I'm totally in love with the glasses and will be searching for the perfect thrift store replica. And how amazing is that coat?

I love the dowdy vintage librarian look to this. It is awesome anti-fashion.

FW2011 Favorites - Dior

All I can post today is Dior because of badly mismanaging my time and needing to go to work, like, now! And I haven't changed yet. Please note, this is not a comprehensive list. Just what collections I was compelled me to click on when I was browsing style.com and I know they've been up for practically a whole season already but I like to share what looks I'm loving and feel inspired by and you don't know that! Here are the looks I love from Dior.

I love this Dior collection. I understand it is Galliano's last and it is very typical Galliano. It is just glamorous and luxe with an ease. I dont agree at all with what he did and how he behaved but I appreciate him as a designer with a lot of serious talent. Nobody is perfect. Moving on, I love the vibrant jewel tones, it is executed perfectly. I love colored bunchy socks. That's another accessory to stockpile on. And I love the beauty for this collection. Vampy, sexy and mysterious. Ok, more later!
